When BFree7663 revealed that he works at AW, I thought I would look at the posts he has made. Could lead to some interesting speculation. What I found was interesting, at least to me.
BFree7663 presents framework for series (“Science Faction”).
“So far AW strikes me as more "science faction" than "science fiction." Unless and until the explanation for the missing person is metaphysical, supernatural or Shyamalan (a too-clever twist... like "he's not really dead!"), this show feels fairly grounded in scientific fact. But I agree with Shoobie... if the explanation is time travel, then the show has crossed over into pure sci-fi... which isn't a bad thing... just different from where it feels to be now. Make sense?”
“There is a difference, imho, between magical and metaphysical.
AW seems to be exploring metaphysical possibilities such as premonition, remote viewing, telekinetic communication, etc. All of which could be tied to the EMP. So, unlike magic, where powers are tied to lineage (ala Harry Potter, LOTR, etc.) this story does feel more grounded because science, or at least a scientific device, seems to be the cause for all the weirdness...”
“I wonder if some post-Fall scientist will discover a new cheap, plentiful energy source right under our noses that would've solved all our energy problems before the Fall. My guess is, that we'll see a re-emergence of things like solar, wind, geothermal and steam-powered devices... assuming all their wiring wasn't fried by the EMP... assuming it was an EMP in the first place... and, finally, assuming anyone can stop worrying about survival long enough to focus on the future of mankind. Hmmm... probably not. ”
BFree7663 predicts the basis for the WorldWall.
“Just wondering...
If technology was down couldn't one still use an old rotary phone (no power needed) to tap into a phone line... then connect with a friend who is doing the same elsewhere on that same line? I'm sure it's a bit more complicated than this, but if you think back to the early days of Ma Bell the underlying concept of phone communication is very simple.
Any experts out there with opinions?”
BFree7663 predicts the return of Delondre.
“If they are making another show with Rosario, it makes me wonder if maybe the character of Delondre is coming back this season on Afterworld. After all, Rosario voiced Delondre and look at the blurb about her character on the website... hmmmmm.
My guess, Shoe crosses her path somewhere and has to bail her out of trouble (to return the favor from NYC.) Anybody else have a guess? Coming back or not? If so, how will it happen? Maybe the writers will use one of our ideas if it's a good one! (yea, right...)”
BFree7663 predicts Russ’ trainride.
One thing I do notice that works (if you watch the #2 music video) are trains -- steam, I'm guessing. Wonder if Russ hitches a ride with the trainguy wearing glasses...
BFree7663 predicts baby trouble.
“Wouldn't be surprised if Russ stumbled into baby trouble somewhere along the road...
The question in my mind is: How would groups like New Eden view the first child conceived and born into the post-Fall world? As a blessed savior... or an unholy abomination? As if just bringing a child into the world isn't hard enough... ”
BFree7663 predicts Mobile Game release and hints toward release timing of Season Two.
“You are describing the mobile game in development right now with Sony. I've heard about this through mutiple sources now (at least one very reliable!) and it's supposed to be out in Spring '08, in advance of Season Two.”
BFree7663 introduces Baker-Gendyne site.
“Probably just coincidence but check out this link. Same company, it looks like, from the fetal report in Russell's journal...
http://www.baker-gendyne.com/”
BFree7663 defends nanotech theory. (Way back in July 07)
Quote:
| RangerSergeant – “Even with the most advanced technology possible today (or in the near future) we don't have the capacity to implement a nano-attack on ourselves.” |
BFree7663’s response - “The thing that fascinates me is the disparity between what is publically considered "the most advanced technology possible today" and what is privately considered to be the same. My experience (involving a family friend at a VERY high level in the Def Dept) is that the public only sees the tip of the iceberg when it comes to tech advances...
All of which makes me wonder: What is REALLY going on at DARPA?”
BFree7663 more interested in Russ’ nightmare than Kizzy’s
“I'm more interested in Russ's nightmare than Kizzy's... although time may prove me wrong. But consider Russ's nightmare: he sees a bunch of planes being loaded by "mutated" people in hazmat suits and among the unwilling passengers are Janelle and Kizzy. Gets me thinking that maybe "The Fall" has a mindf**k component to it, such as...
What if Russ woke up the next morning but it wasn't really the next morning? What if it was months later... after the majority of the human race was off-loaded (as food?) by hostile invaders? Maybe the invaders wiped out all tech to divide and conquer the human race, make them easy targets? Maybe those "left behind" are simply enough humans to start breeding the invaders' next harvest... a few thousand years from now? And maybe the HS warning was issued because the government (ours and others?) were complicit in this great airlift of humanity? Of course, it probably wasn't planes per se, that was just how Russ envisioned it... or maybe he had a dream that was actually Kizzy's premonition?”
BFree7663 Highlights Russ’ dream from the journal.
“I'd think the constant, day-to-day pressure of just trying to survive would override most of the existential issues for Russell (at least it would for me.) Remember, this is a guy who seemed to have no capacity for self-sufficiency before The Fall. Having to count on yourself to stay alive every day... that's a lot for the mind to grapple with. But it doesn't really explain that dream he mentions in the journal. That seemed to be coming from another place. Maybe he's suppressing something... a memory of the past or a vision of the future. Or maybe he's just watched too many B movies.”
BFree7663 and Irony.
“Hello to both Angie and Kyle! Hope you guys both try your hands at some fan fiction on the "Afterwords" forum. I posted my first try at the Marla storyline (Vesica Pisces version) and it was fun. Little intimidating at first, but I figure I'll never meet any of you all in person, right? Unless it's at an AW convention... ”
BFree7663 and the #47.
In AW, 47 mins seems to be the interval for that Serpent Mound fireball (deliberately keeping it vague for virgin eyes.) But here's the interesting thing...
In the real world, 47 is apparently the most random number in the universe. Yet was it chosen at random for AW? You decide. Here's what Wikipedia has to say:
Forty-seven is the 15th prime number, a safe prime, a supersingular prime, and the 6th Lucas prime. 47 is a highly cototient number. It is an Eisenstein prime with no imaginary part and real part of the form 3n ? 1.
It is also a Keith number, because it recurs in a Fibonacci-like sequence started from its base 10 digits: 4, 7, 11, 18, 29, 47...
BFree7663 answers RangerSergeant’s Riddle.
“Moving the question to the end changes the riddle. Because if the question is simply "Can I answer this riddle?", then my answer is "No." There is nothing, at least scientifically, that does all those things -- it probably only works as an abstract. Which means it's a trick question and not logically solvable... as far as I'm concerned.”
Did BFree7663 undergo Survivor immersion?
“First Survival Tip (aka "note to self):
Start weening yourself NOW off of technology. So that when some version of the Fall actually hits, you won't spend the first couple weeks going through withdrawls like some strung-out heroin junkie.”
“I think one day without technology would indeed be relaxing. I've actually gone a couple weeks without technology (don't ask) and, while the first couple days were unnerving, I soon thrived in the tranquility of being "unplugged." But part of my acceptance of the situation was the knowledge that it was a fininte experience. There was a light (electrical!) at the end of the tunnel. If I suddenly lost all technology and soon realized it wasn't ever coming back... that would be a much, much bigger adjustment.”
Third Survival Tip (aka "note to self"):
Eat everything in the fridge and the cabinets and do NOT replenish. Experience what it's like to go hungry for at least 48 hours. Let that pain and fear motivate you to read up on what can be consumed in nature without killing you, how to catch and cook all manner of game, and how to store your bounty. Then celebrate your new wisdom with a Big Mac.
BFree7663 confirms some puzzle pieces but hints at larger revelation.
“Nice work on assembling SOME of the puzzle pieces. But before everyone tears a ligament patting themselves on the back, you might wanna watch the other eight episodes. If there was nothing else to reveal, Season 1 would've only been 122 episodes... ” |
